Council on Aging Celebrates Community Champions Week03/25/2015
Council on Aging of West Florida partnered with Mayor Ashton Hayward for Community Champions Week March 16-20, an initiative to raise awareness about the Meals On Wheels program and its benefits to seniors in our community.
%u201CCouncil on Aging of West Florida has been an essential part of our community for over 40 years,%u201D said Mayor Hayward. %u201CThrough their advocacy, and critical programs like Meals on Wheels, they are empowering our seniors to live healthy, safe, and independent lives. I am humbled to take part in Community Champions Week and to help highlight the important services our Council on Aging provides.%u201D
Mayor Hayward participated in this initiative by delivering nutritious meals to Susie Cooper, a lovely lady 94 years young who has been living in her home for more than 60 years.
This annual event, which is sponsored by the Meals on Wheels America, is designed to engage community leaders and generate public awareness about the growing number of seniors in need of nutritious meals.
